Meatly and The Pack Launches Chick Bites: World’s First Cultivated Chicken Pet Treats
Last updated on February 11th, 2025 at 11:23 am
In a groundbreaking moment for the pet care industry, Meatly and The Pack has officially launched Chick Bites Oven Baked Treats, the world’s first cultivated chicken pet food.
This limited release is available at Pets at Home Brentford, London, starting today Friday, 7th February, 2025.
This historic innovation marks a major leap forward in sustainability, pet health, and ethical meat production.

How Meatly Creates Cultivated Meat
Meatly’s cultivated chicken is produced using a three-step process that guarantees high quality, safety, and sustainability.
1. Cell Collection
Meatly takes a small sample of cells from a chicken egg—just once. After this, no additional animal products are ever used in production.
2. Nourishing the Cells
Instead of animals eating grass to produce nutrients, Meatly provides all the essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids directly to the cells, helping them grow into real meat.
3. Growth & Harvesting
The cells are nurtured in a carefully controlled environment—similar to how yoghurt or beer is made—where temperature and acidity levels are managed to ensure optimal growth. The result? Pure chicken meat, with nothing else added.
Meatly’s cultivated chicken is GMO-free and antibiotic-free. Therefore, each step of the production process is managed to eliminate unwanted chemicals, bacteria, or contaminants, ensuring only the cleanest and safest meat reaches your pet’s bowl.
A New Industry Standard: C-Label Certification
Another milestone—Meatly is the first company to be accredited with the new C-Label, a certification that guarantees customers that Meatly products meet the highest ethical, safety, and health standards.
C-Label certification guarantees that the Chick Bites is:
- Free from animal components in media
- Antibiotic-free
- GMO-free and pathogen-free
- Free from heavy metals and plastics
- Made using humane, minimally invasive cell extraction methods
This accreditation underscores Meatly’s commitment to delivering the safest and most ethical pet nutrition available today.
Industry Leaders Weigh In on the Launch
Owen Ensor, CEO of Meatly
“We’re incredibly excited to introduce cultivated meat to the pet world. Just two years ago this felt like a moon shot. Today we take off. It’s a giant leap forward – toward a significant market for meat which is healthy, sustainable and kind to our planet and other animals.
We’re proud to work alongside fellow pioneers Pets at Home and THE PACK for this momentous endeavor.
It’s also a day to celebrate our incredible team at Meatly. Despite only raising 1% of total European cultivated meat investment, we are the first company to sell cultivated meat in both the UK and EU. At Meatly, we’re proving the potential of cultivated meat, and that there is an efficient and cost-effective route to market.
And we’re just getting started. Next we’ll scale our production and make products more widely available to consumers.”
Anja Madsen, Chief Operating Officer, Pets at Home
“At Pets at Home, we’re guided by our purpose to create a better world for pets and the people who love them, and that includes looking after our planet. We’re also always looking to the future of pet care, and to make sure we’re developing and providing the products that matter to our customers.
This mindset is best demonstrated by our investment in Meatly. We are thrilled to be working with Owen and the team to provide cultivated meat pet food products to our customers for the first time in the world.
This innovation has the potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of pet food and will be a game-changer for the industry.”
Damien Clarkson, CEO and Co-Founder of THE PACK
“The launch of our Chick Bites treats is a watershed moment for the pet food industry. Cultivated meat offers a tasty, low-carbon, and healthy protein source, which has the potential to eliminate farmed animals from the pet food industry.
Our mission at THE PACK is to develop highly nutritious products that dogs love, and we are delighted to partner with Meatly and Pets at Home on this world’s first. For us this is a continuation of our work in developing high-quality alternative protein products for all dog lovers.”
With this historic launch, Meatly, alongside its partners, is setting a new standard for the pet food industry, proving that sustainability and pet health can go hand in hand.
