Growing an email list as a business owner can feel like trying to fill a leaky bucket—no matter how much effort you put in, the results often seem discouraging.

For years, I’ve wrestled with this challenge, too.

Finding new email subscribers who genuinely care about my products and services is tough, and I was eager to find a strategy that worked.

In May, I saw an announcement on a Facebook group that the Done is Better Than Perfect Bundle is now accepting new contributors.

Hosted by Janita Falschlunger, this bundle promised a way to attract new email subscribers by joining forces with over 120 other contributors, mostly business coaches and service providers like myself.

It sounded like the perfect opportunity to share one of my digital products, my Daily Planner Canva templates with a broader audience.

So, I thought, why not?

Today, in this case study, I’ll share my journey with the bundle, how it works, the pros and cons, and tips on making the most out of this opportunity.

Let’s get to it.

What is a Bundle?

A bundle is a collaborative effort where a group of professionals comes together to offer their best products or services for free but for a limited time only.

The main goal is to help participants grow their email lists by reaching a broader audience through the collective promotion of the bundle.

Each contributor shares the bundle with their audience, creating a network effect that benefits everyone involved.

What is the Done is Better Than Perfect Bundle?

The “Done is Better Than Perfect” bundle is a collaborative event hosted by Janita Falschlunger, a Business Strategist and Coach, and the founder of the Business Mamas Community, a paid membership for women entrepreneurs.

After the success of her first bundle last year, Janita decided to bring it back, inviting over 120 contributors to join forces and offer their best products or services for free for a limited time.

I first heard about this bundle in May through a Facebook group where both Janita and I are members.

At first, I was hesitant to join because I was not sure if my Canva templates were good enough for the bundle.

Thankfully, by June 3rd, I received confirmation that my application was accepted. Yasss.

Behind the Scenes: How the Done is Better Than Perfect Bundle Works

Joining the “Done is Better Than Perfect” bundle as a contributor was straightforward—I applied for free and got accepted. While it didn’t cost me anything to join, there were optional paid sponsorship opportunities available.

I opted to join as a regular contributor, with my Daily Planner Canva Templates.

Part of being a contributor meant I had to help spread the word about the bundle. So, I wrote a blog post about it and shared it on Facebook and LinkedIn. I also emailed my subscribers to let them know about the cool stuff in the bundle.

The bundle ran from June 18 to June 25, 2024.

Results of Joining the Done is Better Than Perfect Bundle

Since joining the “Done is Better Than Perfect” bundle, I’ve seen some great results. Janita told me that 2,315 people signed up for the bundle, and 118 have downloaded my Canva templates.

Because of this bundle, I gained 118 new email subscribers. Even though the bundle event has ended, anyone who signed up can still get all the stuff for free for an extended period.

This means I might get even more new email subscribers in the coming weeks.

Pros of How Bundles Can Be The Best Way To Grow Your Email List

1. Meet New People

Joining the “Done is Better Than Perfect” bundle let me meet business coaches and professionals from around the world. It was cool to connect with them and maybe work together in the future.

2. Help from Janita

Janita was super supportive. From before the launch to after it ended, I received regular emails and updates, to make sure that I was informed and prepared at every step.

3. Promotional Assets

Aside from constant updates, Janita provided contributors with valuable promotional assets such as images, videos, email templates, and social media posts that helped me tell more people about the bundle.

4. Exposure to New Audiences

By participating in the bundle, I gained exposure to a large and diverse audience of potential customers who were genuinely interested in discovering new products and services like mine.

5. Easy Email Integration

Pet Content Solutions is a self-hosted WordPress site, but I use Payhip as my online storefront. Payhip is directly linked to my ConvertKit account, so when customers download my Canva templates through the bundle signups, their emails are automatically collected. This setup saves me time by avoiding the need to manually add emails to ConvertKit.

Cons of How Bundles Can Be The Best Way To Grow Your Email List

1. Email Overload

When you join a bundle with over 120 resources, you might get a ton of emails every day from all the contributors. It can be overwhelming to manage so many messages in your inbox.

2. Quality vs Quantity

Getting new email subscribers is good, but not all of them will buy your products and/or services right away. Sometimes it takes time for them to become paying customers. However, they might recommend you to others in the future.

3. Better for Some Businesses than Others

These bundles work well for businesses that sell to other businesses (B2B), where networking is important. This method might not work as well for businesses selling directly to consumers (B2C), where people make decisions differently.

Lessons Learned and Future Plans in Joining Bundles to Grow My Email List

1. Implement Upselling

In future bundles, I plan to include an upsell strategy. Right now, my Payhip store doesn’t have an upsell page where I can offer additional products or discounts to new email subscribers. Doing so could’ve helped me take advantage of the free website traffic to get sales AND emails.

2. Explore Niche Opportunities

Since the “Done is Better Than Perfect” bundle was not niche-specific, I realized the importance of targeting bundles that cater specifically to the pet care industry, which aligns with my target customers. Next time, I’ll look for bundles that focus on pet care. That way, I can connect with people who are more likely to be interested in what I offer.

3. Expand Product Range

To maximize future bundle opportunities, I need to create more products that appeal to my target audience. This means making more Canva templates and other online marketing assets that pet business owners will find useful.

Final thoughts

There you have it, my case study on how bundles can be the best way to grow your email list.

Joining was easy. The bundle ran from June 18 to June 25, and during that time, over 2,300 people signed up to get all the free stuff, including my templates.

I talked about the good things, like meeting other business people and getting support from Janita, who organized the bundle. It was also a chance to learn more about marketing and share my work with a bigger audience.

But there were challenges too. So far, I have 118 new email subscribers, but it’s hard to tell if they are warm leads. Next time, I want to offer more products and join bundles that focus more on pets, so it’s more relevant to my business.

Overall, joining this bundle was a fun learning experience. I’m glad I joined and I’m super thankful to Janita for the opportunity.

So, are you thinking about joining a bundle like this to grow your email list?

Let me know what you think. Take care.
